Massive SteamTinkerLaunch v12 ‘Still Alive’ Update Adds Steam Deck Improvements, Initial Support for Hedge Mod Manager

It’s been well worth the three-month wait for today’s SteamTinkerLaunch update. We’ve got so many new features, improvements, and bug fixes with the “Still Alive” update that is v12.0. Those of you who use this Swiss army knife utility on Steam Deck, and those of you who use mods with Sonic Frontiers, should be particularly excited about this update, as there’s some goodies tossed in your way.
To start, frostworx, the original author of STL, has stepped down as maintainer.

We’ve got a sweet new release for the excellent ProtonUp-Qt app, for managing all of your compatibility tools for Steam, Lutris, and more.
When viewing your game list, you can now check the ProtonDB ranking with the simple click of a button. Super convenient!
NorthstarProton and Steam-Play-None have been added as compatibility tools. The former is “a Proton build based on TKG’s Proton-tkg build system to run the Northstar client on Linux and SteamDeck, along with some enhancements out-of-the-box.
PhobGCC 2.0.2 Makes Firmware Updating Easier, Connection to C-Stick More Reliable

PhobGCC. Chances are you’ve probably never heard of it. Allow GitHub to explain what it is:
The PhobGCC is a replacement motherboard for Gamecube controllers that reads stick position using magnets and Hall effect sensors instead of potentiometers that can wear out. It offers an advanced digital snapback filter that doesn’t reduce responsiveness and actually improves responsiveness in Melee. It also features gate calibration, swappable buttons, and facilitates installation of discrete switches on the D-pad and face buttons.

Proton Experimental Enables Compatibility with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Improved Steering Wheel Support

The first day of winter also marks a new update to Proton Experimental. Small one, but a good one.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now apparently works – I’m assuming this is in reference to the recent DX12 upgrade that had been broken for so many people. Support for steering wheels has been improved, but in what way, the patch notes don’t mention. You might be able to take a look at the commit history to get a hint.
Steam Deck Client Beta Adds Search Tab for Controller Layout, Fixes Library Not Showing Up when Family View is Enabled (Plus Stable and Preview SteamOS Updates)

When browsing controller profiles on the Deck, you can now search for them with today’s (or yesterday’s?) Deck client update (on beta and preview branches). Your library should now properly load if you have Family View enabled. More buttons have been added to the list of inputs “that skip the BPM/Deck start up animations.” A regression was fixed regarding Yaw and Roll combined sliders. Negative contribution from either one is now respected.
GE-Proton7-43 Fixes Garbled Audio with Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Allows Hairworks on The Witcher 3

Immortals: Fenyx Rising came to Steam a few days ago. However, it has evidently faced quite a few issues for both Steam Desk and Linux desktop users. Namely, the occasional pop-up of the Ubisoft Connect overlay, the keyboard and mouse configuration being applied by default when using a gamepad, garbled audio, and black line flickering on the grass rendering.
Fortunately, GE-Proton is here to once again save the day. Well, at least, partly.
Steam Deck Client Beta Fixes Gamepad Focus Issue in Steam Store, Minor Layout Fixes to Login UI (Plus SteamOS Preview Update for OSK Graphics Driver Crash)

More, upon more, upon more fixes for the Steam Deck. This time around, the Steam store should no longer have any gamepad focus issues, and footer buttons should properly be displayed. In Desktop Mode, the login interface got some minor layout fixes. It shouldn’t stretch past the bottom of the window. Context menus should now work after closing the Update news dialog. Subbed workshop items should properly display now when “there were thousands of them.
