New Deck Client Beta Improves the Offline Experience

Small update out for Beta and Preview Steam Deck-ers. Today’s Deck client update (beta) mostly focuses on improving the offline experience. Patch notes are as follows:
Fixed issue where rebooting while in Steam Offline Mode would cause games to fail to launch Fixed the Cloud Sync error notification popping up when offline Disabled Steam Offline Mode button when not connected to the internet, as trying to do this currently gets Steam Deck into a bad state.
SteamTinkerLaunch v11 Released, Adds Flatpak Support and New Translations

SteamTinkerLaunch – the Swiss army knife for configuring games run through Proton – just got a big update yesterday. Included in this release are French, Polish, and Chinese translations, the ability to automatically bump the used official Proton version per game, GameScope support with NVIDIA Image Scaling 1.0.2, Flatpak support, a DXVK framerate limiter option, new FSR options, MangoApp support, improved Origin integration, and tons of other features/bug fixes!

Heroic Games Launcher 2.4.0 ‘Chopper’ Released as Stable, Adds GOG Cloud Save Support and the Ability to Add Games as Non-Steam Games

Quite a massive release for the popular Heroic Games Launcher today. Codenamed “Chopper,” this is apparently the team’s biggest release, containing over 200 commits. There’s too many patch notes to cover, but here’s some of the noteworthy changes:
improvements to the UI, including a unified Epic/GOG library, the ability to mark games as your favorite, new sidebar design, game language selection, and the ability to see if there’s a new version available if you’re not using the Flatpak GOG cloud save support if a gamepad is connected, the interface will be updated to show button icons.
Deck Beta Client Update Adds Keyboard Fixes, SteamOS Beta Update Improves Performance For Forza Horizon 5

ChimeraOS 34 Released, Improves Handheld Gamepad Support and Adds Plenty of Bug Fixes
ChimeraOS – one of my favorite gaming-oriented distributions – just got a big update today. Proton has been re-enabled for Windows-based games (for some reason it wasn’t before), several bug fixes have been addressed for the Steam Deck UI, Proton, and Bluetooth, a UI has been added for formatting external hard drives, “ChimeraOS Verified and Playable” games have been added to the Deck UI, and plenty of other improvements! In addition, the typical set of software packages have been updated:
SteamOS Beta Fixes Stuttering, Especially with Red Dead Redemption 2

Some Deck users were apparently experiencing stuttering issues with the SteamOS 3.3 update. Though I never had such a problem myself, at least it’s good to know Valve is addressing the feedback. I haven’t tested Red Dead Redemption 2 on Deck but it seems that game had a VRAM issue too. Here is what’s new with today’s SteamOS beta update:
Temporarily reverted RDR2 VRAM workaround to pre-3.3 behavior Fixed an issue causing random 0.
SteamOS 3.3 Now Stable, Plus Deck Client Update

Looks like all the changes from the SteamOS 3.3 beta have now been pulled in and put into a stable release. It seems the SteamOS update has been pushed alongside a new stable Deck client update as well, as the patch notes are combined. Among some of the many changes in this update include the removal of Firefox as part of the SteamOS image; it’s now replaced with the latest Flatpak from Flathub.
DXVK 1.10.3 Adds Halo Infinite Video Patch And Improves GPU Performance for Stray

DXVK has been updated to 1.10.3. New features in this update include the support for shared fences, which is needed for Halo Infinite’s videos to work. Fixes and workarounds have been added to Need for Speed 3, Ninja Blade, and Ys Origin. The insanely popular Stray has d3d11.ignoreGraphicsBarriers enabled “to work around some GPU-bound performance issues.” Finally, a regression was fixed from the previous release that caused rendering issues in certain D3D11 titles, including Bioshock Infinite and Prey.
Proton Experimental Update Enables Compatibility with Unravel 2 and Zuma’s Revenge, Fixes OUTRIDERS on Deck

New Proton Experimental update has just landed. It’s a relatively small update but you’ll like it if you happen to be a fan of either Unravel 2 or Zuma’s Revenge! Both games are now playable.
In addition, performance for HROT has been improved. Fixes have been added to Civ IV and OUTRIDERS – the former should no longer crash on world creation, and the latter should no longer hang on the black screen when launching the game on the Steam Deck.
